Program corrections and improvements

    Technical

In DT Max versions 6.14 to 6.20 the default location for the archive files was mistakenly changed from the subfolder ARCHIVE to ARCHIVING. This problem has been fixed in v6.21 (reverting to the subfolder ARCHIVE). Users who use archiving with the default location are advised to manually copy any files from the ARCHIVING subfolder to the ARCHIVE subfolder after installing v6.21.

    Federal

Schedule 4 - The average US exchange rate is now displayed properly.

T1139 - The SIN of the taxpayer is now displayed clearly. The number is no longer superimposed depending on the instalment method selected.

T1163 - Certain CAIS commodities have been converted to qualifying commodities for Alberta and British Columbia.

T1229 - The calculations for the opening balance and the adjustments from the RESOURC-POOL group have been revised. Amounts entered in the RESOURC-POOL group for different types of expenses (CCEE and CCDE) are no longer added together and erroneously entered on the T1229.

T1229 - The workchart for the foreign exploration and development expenses (FEDE) has been corrected to include amounts from the keyword RESOURC-POOL. The credit calculated on this workchart will be properly transferred to part III of form T1229 and then to the federal jacket line 224.

    Quebec

TP-1029.9.3 - The tax credit for the modernization of the taxi fleet is no longer limited to $500 per year.

    Other provinces

With respect to tuition, DT Max no longer transfers unused tuition to the optimal parent provincially if a dependant selects to have it carried forward for future use. Federally, the tuition was correctly carried forward to the following tax year.

New feature

A new feature has been added to the EFile menu under View and print efile reports to allow users to retrieve any missing acknowledgements directly from the CRA's Web site. This feature is only available to EFILE Online Plus users who are transmitting directly to the CRA. It can be activated by clicking Download missing ACK's from the CRA. If an acknowledgment report has not been retrieved 24 hours after submitting a return, users may highlight the applicable 813 reports and select this option. DT Max will begin a session with the CRA's Web site and attempt to retrieve the outstanding acknowledgements. The newly obtained reports can then be viewed within the efile report listing.

New keywords

Form NR5 can be generated by two methods using the keyword NR5. Firstly, under the automatic calculation method, the estimates for the following tax year will be based on the current tax year's data entry. The keyword NR-Account# in the T-Slip group can be used to enter the non-resident account number indicated on the NR4 (this number will only appear on the NR5 form). Secondly, you can choose to manually input the estimates for the following year. The keyword Benefits-OV can be used to override the Canadian social security benefits. The estimates for other Canadian-source income and the estimates for foreign-source income are entered using the keywords Cdn-Income-OV and For-Income-OV, respectively.

In the T-Slip group, a new option is available to input the T4A-RCA slip Statement of distributions from a retirement compensation arrangement. Use the keyword Employee-Ref to enter the refund of contributions made by the taxpayer or another beneficiary. The amount refunded to the employer can be entered using the keyword Employer-Ref. (Note that this is for information purposes, and the amount will not appear on the return.) The keyword Distributions should be used to input the amount paid as benefits from the RCA.
